Establishment of experimental animal tissue bank for 3R action

Abstract

|
3R (reduction, refinement, replacement) is considered a major philosophy for experimental animal use. Experimental animal tissue banking and sharing system could contribute toward the achievement of 3R goal. Since no governmental and private sector responsible for the animal tissue banking and sharing system is not established in Korea, organizations related with experimental animal use are requested to consider the system. Various factors for launching the system should be considered including governing authority, participating organizations, scope for animal tissue collection and sharing, standard operational procedures for collection, management, and distribution, and ethical aspects.
